Linda Gemmell Prize
Linda was born in Scotland and grew up in Alloway, a small village, just on the outskirts of Ayr, a place much associated with Robbie Burns. After she left University, Linda moved to Birmingham, but then came to live in Kent in 1973 where she lived for the rest of her life.
Linda was a lovely, friendly person who loved to entertain – whether it was cooking dinner for friends, giving parties (with compulsory quizzes!) or acting on stage. Linda was very proud of her Scottish heritage and was one of the main instigators of the Burn’s Night celebrations held by Lenham Players every January.
Linda is remembered by everyone who knew her as a loving and loyal friend. She always had a Labrador and when she died, she wanted to leave a lasting legacy to Labrador Rescue so that it could continue its fantastic work.
Labrador Rescue decide to inaugurate this prize in Linda’s memory. She would have been thrilled.
LRK would like to thank Lesley, Linda’s friend, for her kind words above. Each year at the LRK Reunion Day, LRK present the Linda Gemmell prize to a Labrador and its rescue family who have overcome a challenging adoption with various issues. LRK very much appreciate the work our adoptive families do to help the dogs settle into their new homes.
